I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows today after work. I only slept about 2 hours a half last night and I was really really tired after work but I really wanted to see this. I am 100% glad that I went. It was brilliant, but damn J.K. Rowling, has she no heart?? Read further at your own risk… spoiler warning!
Ok as soon as the movie started it got right to the good stuff, no boring filler scenes or any of the like. It is absolutely darker then all the other movies, so not sure kids under maybe 7 should see it. Its nothing terribly bad but the kids just might not be able to follow the storyline. Anyways moving along…
There is a scene where Hermione erases her parents memories, she makes them forget she ever existed… that was hard to watch. I thought wow, we get to see Hermione’s house and her parents… nope, all we see is the back of their heads as she raises her wand to them and whispers, “obliviate,” in which her image begins to disappear in all the photos in her house. She had to make them forget her for their own safety. It had to be done, I mean what muggle parents would allow their kid to go run into one of the biggest magical wars there ever was and be like, “ok, have fun.” The parents had to be made to forget to make the storyline work.
With Harry we see the Dursleys leaving, they move away leaving him behind. Uncle Vernon tells Dudley they are moving because its no longer safe for them there. Harry then proceeds to take a last look around the house, at his little cupboard under the stairs, before he is joined by everyone, the Order, and Hermione, Ron, Fred, George, Bill (we finally get to see him, I wonder if we will get to see Charlie), and Fluer DeLacore. The scene that ensues during this… wow… I could not stop laughing. I won’t say why, if you read the books I am sure you know, if you’ve not well see the movie.
After the scene I mentioned above we lose a character, the first in part 1 that we loose. Mad Eye is killed when Mungdugnus runs away and leaved Mad Eye alone. J.K. seems to believe Harry should never have someone to count on apparently…
We get a nice scene with one of the twins starring at Ginny and Harry as they kiss, it was a funny scene… before Bill and Fleur’s wedding… that gets interrupted by the Death Eaters… here is where Harry, Ron, and Hermoine break away from the adults and the movie then focus’ on them. That was the best part. Sure I’ve liked the addition of the order, etc. but the movies were at their best when it focused on the kids… who are not kids anymore.
When they started they were about 11 years old, and are now about 21 years old. It’s been fun watching them grow on the big screen and enjoying the tale that is Harry Potter. I’m gonna miss having a new film to look forward to after I see part 2… IN 8 MONTHS!!! UGH….
From here its non-stop interesting scenes. I learn things I had questions to, I learn things I did not want to know, I have questions about things I don’t know, yeah all that in one movie.
One of the best parts is when Harry with Ron and Hermoine sneak into the Ministry of Magic that is taken over by a trader and Umbridge.. ugh… Anyways they go in desguised as workers with the help of Polyjuice Potion and Harry gets to stupefy Umbridge and remind her that he “cannot tell a lie.”
One of the greatest things in the film is seeing Lucius Malfoy scared like a little sniveling shit that he is.
One of the saddest scenes that tells me J.K. has no heart… Dobby.. poor dobby, he is killed helping rescue Harry, Hermoine, Ron, Luna Lovegood, and 2 others from Lucius’ house. It was such a sad scene. Damn you J.K. Rowling, damn you!
But the kicker was the end… well the end of the middle… Voldermont breaks Dumbeldore’s coffin and steals something very important… so important that I do not know how this could end in favor of Harry and Co.
I’ve not read the books so I’ve been doing my best to stay spoiler free, so I hope I can keep that up until the last movie 8 MONTHS LATER!!! Ugh.
Well now, moving along… if you live in an area that has a Harkins Theater, you would see the new 2011 souvenir cups are out, if you are not familiar with them, these cups cost about $4.75 at purchase, however all year long you can get it refilled for just $1. If you go often, this cup pays for itself time and time again. I was very surprise that they finally came out with a decent design! The last some years the design has been horrible. I do not know who gets to design these cups, (I’d love to design one!) but as I said, the last few years… many years… its been coming up short. This year they came out with a sort of anime look, which I think is great. Its cute and they have matching re-loadable gift cards too.
