Chapter 5 – Who Do You Think You Are

Luke Sr., Jesse, and Luke split up to look for Bo* and Jonathan while leaving John behind to watch Clark. They needed to find them fast, for Jonathan’s sake, and for Clark’s. They didn’t know whether to leave the ring on Clark while holding the “green rock” near him enough to subdue him, or to take the ring off and put the “green rock” away. And it seemed the more time that passed the more the “green rock” was dominating.

Luke went to see if maybe Bo* for some reason took Jonathan to the hospital, he had done that before even if he hated Jonathan. Jesse went to his house to see if his mom knew anything, or if maybe they were there, while Luke* went to look for him around the more dangerous parts of Hazzard.

But of course they weren’t around either one of those places, or any of the spots Luke* was checking out. Because they were pulling up to a place no one figured they would go to. The Boar’s Nest. But not the Boar’s Nest Jonathan remembered. The new Boar’s Nest was rougher, and dealt with more passing truckers then before, as hard to believe as that is. But these truckers weren’t the regular mildly drunk truckers that once passed through; they were low, cheap, and dirty figuratively and literally speaking.

“Go inside,” Bo* said starring at the front of the Boar’s Nest. Jonathan did as Bo* instructed without saying anything to him. When he walked in he was overwhelmed with what he saw. The Boar’s Nest was always a home to Boss’s rotten affiliates, but now it looked like a place ex-convicts would call home.

“She worked here didn’t she,” Jonathan said in more of a statement then a question.

“She hated being supported by my grandparents,” Bo* began, “She didn’t want to take money that she didn’t earn. She wanted to do what she could to take care of me, of us, so she worked there every damn night. She’s put me to bed, kiss me goodnight, and come deal with shit for brain bastard’s like that… though I guess I shouldn’t use bastard right, being as I am one.”

“You’re not!” Jonathan raised his voice looking at Bo*, who still would not face him.

“This isn’t the Q&A of our trip, so shut up,” Bo* gripped the steering wheel as he pulled out of Boar’s Nest lot, and headed to the next stop in his educational field trip.

Meanwhile Luke was returning to the farm to see how John was doing dealing with Clark, and to see if maybe Jonathan was back. But what he found wasn’t what he expected. And certainly not what John had expected while ‘babysitting’ Clark. Clark had John up against the wall choking him.

“You thought you and your idiot brother, and pathetic cousin could drag me here and I wouldn’t get back at you,” Clark said slamming John a few times more.

“You’re not thinking right Clark,” John spat out, “and your dad need’s you.”

Clark then threw John into the wall, where he landed just outside the bathroom door.

Luke then jumped at Clark with the green K that was on the floor by the kitchen table. Clark felt the affect and turned to see Luke shoved the rock into Clark’s stomach with a hard right.

“I’m sorry Clark,” Luke said punching Clark again in the side, making a grab for the ring with his left hand and finally pulling it off, and tossing the green rock into his bedroom.

Clark’s attitude immediately changed. The Clark they knew was now back. He seemed a bit disorientated, and then realized and remembered what was going on. He got up off the floor and looked at John and Luke, “I’m sorry.”

“So am I,” Luke said going and closing his door.

“I…” Clark really didn’t know what to say, how to fix what had just gone on.

“Clark your dad really needs you,” Luke told him. Clark’s face filled with pain over thinking about his father, and in which the state he was in when he took off, and then thinking of why he took off, his mother was dead. With the ring on he knew she was dead, but it didn’t hurt him. It didn’t pang him. Now without it, he hurt as much as he did that day he took off, the day of the funeral. Clark still in all intense purposes hadn’t mourned for his mother yet as one would expect. But he still didn’t have time for that.

“Where is he?” Clark asked.

“Don’t you remember?” John asked rubbing his neck and throat.

“I remember you all going out, but I hurt too much from the kry… the green rock that I couldn’t focus on what was going on,” Clark explained.

“Bo’s* taken him somewhere,” John said.

“We’re looking for him, you just need to stay here, I’m sure that…” Luke didn’t get a chance to finish because Clark ran past them and out the door in the blink of an eye.

“Dad if Bo’s* done anything… the way Clark’s feeling, what’s happened… Clark’s gonna hurt him bad,” John told his father.

“I know son, I know,” Luke said sighing.

“Dad! John!” Luke* ran into the house, “Did I just see what I think I saw?” Luke* said looking around the house hoping to see Clark.

“Yes you did,” Luke told his son.

“John, how did Clark get free from the rock?” Luke asked his son.

“He said he needed to go to the bathroom,” I helped him up, and started to walk him to the bathroom, I forgot to grab the rock, and when I remembered he was far enough away from it to go crazy again.”

“You’re such a spaz John,” Luke* told him.

“Boy’s shut up, get out there both of you. We got to find them before Clark does,” Luke said heading towards the door.

Jonathan and Bo* were now pulled up to a place Jonathan feared the most at the moment, Hazzard Cemetery.

“You don’t have to do this son,” Jonathan told Bo*.

“Don’t call me that,” Bo said coldly.

“Get out, she’s by the last statue,” Bo* told him.

A Cemetery was the last place Jonathan wanted to be. It made him think of Martha. He was also afraid to see Sally Mae’s grave stone. It would be like facing her after so many years, facing her after abandoning her and Bo* even though he never knew. Bo* trailed behind him leaving some space between them.

Jonathan looked down at the stone that read:

Here Lies
Sally Mae Johnson
Beloved Mother & Daughter

“How could you Sally,” Jonathan found himself saying first. “I did love you; you knew that, you knew why I left. Why didn’t you say anything, I would have stayed, or at least taken you with me,” Jonathan spoke, which wasn’t quite what Bo had in mind as he came up behind Jonathan and pulled then pushed him away from his mother’s grave.

“WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!” Bo* shouted at him, “YOU’RE THE ONE WHO DID WRONG!” Bo* yelled at him, “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO PROCLAIM THINGS AT HER GRAVE!” Bo then rammed Jonathan up against the statue by his mother’s grave and was about to punch him when suddenly he was thrown back through the air landing 30 feet from where he stood and where Clark now stood.
