Chapter 2

Clark didn’t waste anytime going home, he headed right out of the school as soon as the bell rang. Almost forgot not to run at his super speed, thankfully Chloe had called his name, which got his attention.

“Oh hey Chloe, I know you wanted me to work on the torch today, but I need to get home,” Clark told her.

“Clark, this is the 2nd time this week you…”

“I’m sorry Chloe, but I had to go home, I have some things to do with my dad,” Clark told her and hurried off.

“One of these days Clark Kent,” Chloe muttered as she went back into the school from the parking lost they had been out at.

Clark hadn’t quite figured out how to ask about what he had ‘overheard.’ He didn’t want to get his dad more upset. Clark went up to his loft to practice what he would ask his dad.

“So dad… this morning, after I left for school, I came back, forgot something,” he thought lying about why he had come back was better then telling his dad the truth, about purposely ease dropping on them. “And I came by to say bye when I heard voices in the barn… I wanted to ask… I… about that…”

“About the letter, and my breakdown that you ‘overheard,’ Jonathan was standing at the bottom of the stairs that led up to the loft. Clark jumped.

“Dad!” Clark exclaimed… damn super hearing hadn’t helped him hear his dad sneak up on him.

“Didn’t know you were home from school yet,” Jonathan walked up to the loft, “because when you get home, you know your suppose to get right to the farm work,” he added.

“I know, I just…” he trailed off.

“Ask me about something you shouldn’t have been ease dropping on in the first place!” Jonathan scolded.

“I... didn’t mean to,” Clark was caught off guard. His dad never used that tone on him. Well once in a while, but right now, he hadn’t been expecting his dad to be so mad at him.

“Go and start your chores,” Jonathan snapped at him, before turning around and walking down the stairs, out of the barn.

“What was that?” Clark asked himself running his hand in his hair. He stood there a second or two before coming back to reality, and going to the house.

“Hi Honey, I was wondering what was keeping you,” Martha smiled at him as Clark walked into the kitchen.

“I was in the barn,” Clark told her in a sort of annoyed voice.

“What’s wrong Clark?” Martha asked him.

“Why don’t you ask dad,” he replied.

“Ask me what?” Jonathan walked into the kitchen.

Clark jumped again; his dad was getting entirely too good at sneaking up on people.

”Nothing,” Clark headed to the stairs to his room. When he had left the kitchen, Jonathan turned to Martha.

”Ask me what?” he repeated.

“What’s wrong with him? He came in looking troubled, I asked him about it, and he said to ask you,” she explained.

Jonathan sighed.

“He saw us this morning in the barn… saw me, heard me…” Jonathan told her, “I walked into the barn, and heard him practicing what he was going to ask me, about this morning,” he added, “and I got angry.”

“Oh Jonathan, he was just worried, he had asked me this morning before he left the house, what was wrong, I told him to ask you after school, I didn’t know he would go and listen in on us,” Martha told him.

“I know, I’ll talk to him later today, after dinner,” Jonathan told her.

“Are you ok?” she asked him.

“I’m better, I don’t want to stop working, don’t want to think about it, not at least until tonight when I talk to Clark,” he responded. Martha went up and hugged him.

“You know, when you tell him about your life as Bo Duke, he won’t believe you,” Martha smiled at him.

“I know, if I wasn’t me, I wouldn’t believe it either,” Jonathan smiled back at her, “I should get back to work.”

He walked past the stairs in the house, looked up wanting to talk to Clark, but hesitated and went back to work.

“Stubborn as a mule,” Martha said to herself.

Clark, being Clark, again overheard his parents talking in the kitchen. Again they talked about a Bo. His mom had called his dad Bo Duke. Clark didn’t think anything else aside from the day he found out he wasn’t born on this planet could shock him, or surprise him. He had no idea what a surprise awaited him when he found out.

“Clark! Come down and do your chores, I want to have dinner a bit earlier today,” Clark hearted his mother shout out from the kitchen.

“I’m coming!” Clark pulled a flannel shirt over his head, “I’m just changing my shirt!”
