22/06: Chapter 14
Chapter 14
When they got to the farm Jesse got out of the car, and walked over to where the General Lee was. They had already dropped it off, and didn’t wait for anyone to sign. Clark walked on over to the beat up car.
“I think it can be fixed…” Clark said.
“You’re a mechanic are you?” Jesse shot a look at him.
“No… but I’m just saying, maybe it can be fixed,” Clark responded.
“Yeah… maybe… but I don’t think I want to fix it. Serves Bo right for what he’s done,” Jesse said.
“It’s much my fault as it is his,” Clark said.
Jesse looked at him, “you’re a real piece of work aren’t you? Stupid, and naive.”
“If I had stopped, and not told him it was mine, this,” he pointed to the General Lee, “might not have happened.”
“If it hadn’t happened when it did, it would have happened later. Bo is hotheaded, stubborn, and can be an asshole if he wants to, and he wanted to. He made up his mind way before he ever met your dad, and before he met you,” Jesse told him, “he hated you. He hated your dad. He saw your dad as someone who gave him up…”
“My dad didn’t even know about him! It’s not his fault your mom and her cousin and that Uncle Jesse guy kept Bo from him!” Clark defended his dad.
“We all know that! Bo knows it! He just doesn’t want to accept it. He doesn’t know how to let your dad get close to him. He doesn’t know how to let anyone get close to him, not anymore,” Jesse sighed and turned away.
“What do you mean? Not anymore?” Clark asked.
Jesse turned back around, “you mention this to anyone, to your dad, and I swear you’ll pay for it,” Jesse told him straight in the eyes, “a few years ago… Bo was driving the General through Hazzard, he was alone that day, when he passed this old man, whose car had broken down. Bo offered the man a ride, and the man accepted. Old Jones is what they called him. Bo helped him home, then hauled his car home for him as well. The man thanked him, and insisted Bo stop by later that week to pay him back for the ride. Bo said that wasn’t necessary. Old Jones wouldn’t take no for an answer. So later that week Bo went back. And then later he went back again, and again, and again. Bo kept the old man company. The old man would tell him stories about his Moonshine days, and about his life, and just about anything. Old Jones had done a lot of traveling. Bo was about 15. Was barley old enough to drive… well legally that is. Things were fine, and Bo had someone other then the family to talk to. What Old Jones hadn’t told him was how sick he was. One night Bo came home, had a big fight with Uncle Jesse, and Uncle Luke… he said he was leaving Hazzard for a few months. Old Jones asked him to come along with him to a small road trip. Said he wanted to go home for a visit. He asked Bo to take him. Hazzard wasn’t Old Jones’ hometown. He has just lived in Hazzard for about 10 years. Uncle Jesse, and Uncle Luke said no. Said he was too young, and had school. Bo snuck out of the house the next morning, and left… when he got to Old Jones’ place, my dad was there. Seems someone had gone and accidentally ran their car into Old Jones’ car. When they went to apologize, and set up some way to pay him, the door opened… the guy walked in and found Old Jones dead. There was a letter for Bo. My dad gave it to him. The old man had planned it from the start. Told Bo not to think for one second that he didn’t care about him for real, but when he met him, he saw the chance he needed. Bo wasn’t supposed to take him back home for a visit, but to be buried there. Bo didn’t take it well. After the ambulance took Old Jones away Bo started to smash up the place. He did a good amount of damage to the house, and to his hands from hitting everything that came into his path… until my dad stopped him. Ever since, Bo was different. Less accepting to new people… especially people who wanted to get close to him, father figures…”
“That must have been hard,” Clark said.
“Didn’t you hear what I said?” Jesse shouted at him, “IT WAS HARD ON HIM. NOT MAYBE! WAS!”
“So then why are you being so hard on him?” Clark asked.
Jesse stopped and froze… “because he should have known better! He let his hate, his fright cloud his head and because of him Luke might die!”
“Luke can get better, you never know, doctors have been wrong before,” Clark tried to give him some hope.
They were so into their conversation they hadn’t noticed when John had shown up.
“If Luke dies it’s just as if Bo had killed him!” Jesse shouted.
“SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH!” John walked into view closer and closer to where Jesse stood, “you say that again and I’ll kill you!” John shouted.
“IF LUKE DIES ITS BO’s FAULT! AND YOU’RE TOO MUCH OF AN IDOT TO REALIZE IT!” Jesse yelled at John.
“SHUT UP!” John grabbed Jesse and slammed him into the hood of the wrecked General Lee. He grabbed Jesse’s shoulders and repeatedly slammed him into the hood as he told him off.
“Guys stop!” Clark shouted.
“Stay out of this!” John shouted back,” don’t you ever, EVER say that!” John shouted. He lifted Jesse off the car and pushed him onto the floor.
Jesse was holding his head, as it was hurting, and bleeding.
“My brother is not going to die!” John kicked Jesse in the sides.
“Stop it!” Clark ran to grab John, but what Clark didn’t know was John had found a piece of kryptonite in the parking lot of the hospital. It was in the rock area they had for decoration. John had never seen anything like it, and had put it in his jacket pocket. As Clark got closer to John, he started to feel the affect, so he stopped.
“John if you don’t stop you will kill him!” Clark shouted.
“Don’t you ever blame Bo! Don’t you dare think Luke will die!” John at this point had really hurt Jesse. He was now on top of Jesse punching him repeatedly. Clark had to step in kryptonite or not. He grabbed John’s arm before he could strike Jesse again, and John pushed him away. He looked at Jesse seeing what he was doing and stopped. He got away from Jesse as quick as he could, running into Clark knocking him down. John saw Clark start to get the way he did when he was near the truck. He bent over Clark, and nudged him. Clark was past out. And the kryptonite about the size of a baseball fell out and lay right next to Clark. John ran to his and Jesse’s car and took off.
Jesse lay there unconscious, bleeding from his head, his left eye, and side of his face starting to swell. Curled up in a sort of fetus position. Clark lay there past out getting weaker with the kryptonite next to him.
And that’s how they laid for an hour until Jonathan, Luke, Martha, and Daisy came home. Visiting hours had ended, and they were told they had to leave. Martha found them.
“CLARK!” she shouted, “JONATHAN!”
Jonathan and Luke looked at each other, before taking off in a run, with Daisy behind them.
“JESSE!” Daisy saw him and started to panic, “Luke! Look at him!” she yelled.
“Calm down,” Jesse knelt beside him, “Jesse! Come on wake up,” Luke called.
Jonathan saw the kryptonite and tossed it as far as he could, Luke noticed that, but didn’t say anything. Jonathan pulled Clark’s head into his lap with Martha beside them.
“Clark,” Jonathan lightly smacked his cheeks, “Clark wake up son.”
“What happened!” Martha exclaimed.
“He needs to go to the hospital,” Luke told Daisy, “run and call them,” and she did.
“John was coming here over an hour ago,” Luke got up from the ground where he was with Jesse, and started shouting for John.
“JOHN!” Luke shouted, “JOHN WHERE ARE YOU!”
“He… left,” Clark was starting to wake up, still feeling the affect of the rock.
“Clark,” Jonathan said, “that’s it, wake up,” Jonathan told him.
“Oh Clark, what happened,” Martha asked.
“John…”
“John what?” Luke looked at him… “John did it,” he looked over in Jesse’s direction.
“Did what…” Luke looked at Jesse, “that? You’re trying to tell me John hurt Jesse?”
“What??” Daisy over heard as she came back, “that’s not true!”
“Clark wouldn’t lie,” Jonathan told them.
“No!” Luke refused to accept it.
“He’s… telling.. (cough) the truth…” Jesse suddenly spoke. Luke looked at Jesse, and Daisy, and Jonathan, and couldn’t take what he was hearing, he stumbled back and walked away.
“Luke!” Daisy shouted, “please not now, come back, help me with Jesse,” she pleaded.
Luke did as Daisy asked, but could not believe what John had done.
“How could he…” Luke mumbled.
“We’ll get Jesse to the hospital, then we’ll figure this out,” Jonathan told him.
“Isn’t Clark going to the hospital?” Daisy asked.
“No,” Martha quickly responded.
“He’ll be fine in a few minutes,” Jonathan told them, as he helped Clark get up.
Luke new Jonathan was hiding something, but now was not the time.
“I hear the ambulance,” Daisy said.
“Don’t move him,” Jonathan said, “let the medics do it, he could get hurt if you move him,” Jonathan said.
“He’s already hurt, and John’s to blame,” Luke said in disbelief, “John’s at fault…”
When they got to the farm Jesse got out of the car, and walked over to where the General Lee was. They had already dropped it off, and didn’t wait for anyone to sign. Clark walked on over to the beat up car.
