Chapter 20

The day after Bo’s outburst they decided to avoid another attempt, to move Luke and Bo both into one room. With Jonathan and Luke’s permission they did just that. It was during that phone call to the Kent’s, the doctor had mentioned Clark’s visit just before Bo had an ‘outburst’ the doctor called it.

“Yes… he did mention that to me, thank you,” Jonathan said hanging up the phone. But Clark hadn’t said anything about it to anyone. Clark was up in the loft alone when Jonathan headed to the barn to talk to him. He just wanted to know why he hadn’t mentioned the visit, and why he lied about where he was going. Clark had begun to change his attitude, understandably Jonathan thought, but enough was enough. Clark wasn’t going to turn into the type of kid who lied to his parents.

“Clark?” Jonathan walked into the barn.

“Up here,” Clark responded. Jonathan headed up the stairs to talk with Clark.

“Son, we need to talk,” Jonathan began.

“I didn’t ask for more time off from school, they just keep giving it to me,” Clark said thinking that’s what his dad wanted.

“No, not about that, but I think you do need to get back into class, but like I said, that’s another matter, I want to talk to you about yesterday,” Jonathan sat down on the sofa next to Clark. Clark kept a sofa up in the loft. It was like another room of his.

Clark didn’t say anything, just stood up and looked out the loft door.

“Why didn’t you tell me you had gone to see Bo at the hospital, and that it was right before he lost it?” Jonathan asked.

“I didn’t think it was important,” Clark said smugly.

“Look at me,” Jonathan said firmly standing up. Clark turned and looked at his dad.

“Fine, I went to see him,” Clark said.

“Well I already know that, I want to know why? And why you lied about going to Lex’ house?” Jonathan asked.

“Because, if I told you I was going to go see him, you would have wanted to come,” Clark answered.

“Why wouldn’t you want me to come son?” Jonathan asked.

“Because I had something’s I need to say to him, and I don’t think you should have been there when I said them,” Clark told him.

“Did you cause him to do what he did?” Jonathan asked.

Clark didn’t answer.

“Answer me Clark!” Jonathan got angry and placed his hand on Clark’s shoulder, “what happened.”

“What happened?” Clark moved away from his dad closer to the loft doors, which were like a big window on the 2nd floor of the barn, “I did what needed to be done dad! I told him what I thought of him, of what he caused!” Clark started to raise his voice; Jonathan let him talk, “I told him that because of him he’s hurt the 3 people he’s supposedly cared about the most. That one beat the other while defending him over the fact that what he did might kill another cousin, and it would be his fault. That I wish he had never came here! That you never knew about him!” Clark shouted.

Jonathan was stunned. Clark had never carried so much hate in him. Never.

“I walked out and I heard him start to go crazy, I left, I didn’t care to see what he did,” Clark finished.

“Oh Clark… how could you do that?” Jonathan asked.

“I did it because someone had to, and no one was doing it! I didn’t it for you! For me! For everyone!” Clark argued.

“I’m sorry this is hurting you so much,” Jonathan said, “I’m sorry.”

“STOP IT! YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO BE SORRY FOR!” Clark shouted, “HE DOES! You didn’t do anything wrong! No one but him is to blame!”

“Clark!” Jonathan grabbed him and hugged him in a strong hold, “let it go, let it go.”

Clark started to push away but Jonathan just held him in his hug, and Clark started to shed some tears, and calm down.

“I’m sorry dad, I just… I don’t know why I’ve been acting like I have been… its just ever since he got here…” Clark began.

“I know son, I know…” Jonathan told him holding him still.

“You have every right to feel the way you do, but I’m sorry that your feeling it, that your going through this,” Jonathan told him. Jonathan finally let him go, and Clark sat down on the couch.

“Tomorrow I was going to leave early in the morning, I have a delivery to make. It will take half a day to get there, and another half a day back, I was going to ask Luke to come with me, but maybe you should come,” Jonathan told him.

“No… ask Luke… he needs something to get his mind of things,” Clark looked up at his dad.

“Are you sure?” Jonathan asked.

“Yes,” Clark answered.

“Ok then,” Jonathan said, “your mom’s just about ready to serve supper, come in and wash up ok,” he added. Clark nodded, then Jonathan headed down the stairs.

“Dad,” Clark said, Jonathan turned his head around to look at him, “I’m sorry I don’t like him, I know you want me to,” Clark said. Jonathan smiled at him, and kept walking down the stairs.
