2 weeks had passes since Clark ran off, it was now August 4th. Jonathan had not been well since Clark took off, and Luke was worried about him. They were ready to go back home to Hazzard the next day. Bo was awake, not speaking much of what happened of course, and not wanting to talk to anyone about anything yet. When he heard about Martha dying he felt something… he didn’t want to admit it to himself, but he was sorry she had died. She had been so nice to him, tried to act like a mother with him the short days he was there before she got sick.
Luke had spoken with the doctors about getting some sort of medication for Jonathan, but they told Luke that what Jonathan needed was time. He needed time to cope from his wife’s death, and time to deal with his son’s running away, which is what they said happened.
“Bo*,” Luke walked into Clark’s room where Jonathan had been sleeping. He still couldn’t stand to be in his and Martha’s room without her, knowing she would never step into the room again. He also hoped Clark would come back, but he knew he wouldn’t.
Jonathan didn’t respond.
“Bo*… I think you…. Should come back to Hazzard with us,” Luke said, but Jonathan still didn’t respond, so Luke took it a step farther, “Bo* your’e coming back with us to Hazzard period, and I don’t want to hear anything about it.”
Jonathan looked at Luke for a moment, then back to nothing.
Bo* was at the hospital waiting to be picked up by Luke*, and head back home to Hazzard, although he would have to be admitted into the hospital at Hazzard for a few more days for observations. Luke packed Jonathan 4 suitcases, getting as much as he could, and what he thought Jonathan would want. He also packed a bag with a few things to remember Martha by, so when Jonathan snapped out of it, he wouldn’t hate himself for not taking something. He packed some of Martha’s craft works, photos of Martha, photos of Martha and Jonathan… well just about any photos he could find he took. The boys even looked in the storm cellar where Clark’s ship was for anything they thought he would need.
“Man can you believe he came from another planet,” John said looking at the spaceship.
“Don’t touch it, who knows what it might do,” Luke warned.
“He’s like E.T.” Jesse said, “I mean he’s a nice alien, not like the ones in Independence Day.”
“You’re such a geek,” John told him.
“Shut up,” Jesse snapped.
“Both of you shut up,” Luke* told them, “just look around for anything you think we should take, and hurry up, I bought some locks and heavy duty chains and stuff to lock this storm cellar up before we leave, I don’t think Jo…. my dad’s cousin would want someone finding it.”
“That won’t be needed son,” Luke walked down into the cellar, “we’re taking it with us.”
“What?” they all three exclaimed.
“How? We can’t, Bo* will see it,” Jesse said.
“We’ll cover it up before we pick him up, and we’ll store it at Jesse’s house,” Luke said, “I already talked to your mom and dad,” Luke told them, “its to dangerous to leave it here without Clark or Bo here.”
“You know dad its weird to have you call your cousin Bo, when we call Bo*…well Bo* too,” John said.
Luke just gave him a look.
“I’ll go get your cousins truck and back it up as much as I can, the closer it is, the faster we can get it on, and covered before anyone sees,” Luke* told his dad going out to get the truck.
Jesse and John after helping load the truck, went to get Krypto. He had been at the vet still because they just hadn’t had time to get him with everything going on, and the vet said they didn’t mind having him around while things with funeral settled down.
Luke decided to pack suitcases for Clark as well. He didn’t doubt Clark would find them if he wanted to, so he decided that he should have some of his things there waiting for him. He packed up as much clothes as he could, Clark’s computer, stereo, shoes, books, telescope, even more photos, and yearbooks, anything Luke thought Clark might like to have there.
Jonathan was going to be staying in what use to be Daisy’s room, and Clark could stay in what use to be his and Jonathan’s room, which was now Bo’s* and Luke’s* room, they would just throw in another bed, or a cot or something, or even stay with Jesse if he wanted to. Luke slept in what use to be Uncle Jesse’s room.
Luke locked up the house and the barn, left a key to the lock on the barn door for the neighbor, and proceeded to get on with packing up the cars.
They packed up the cars, the General, Black Tilly, Jesse and John’s car, and Jonathan’s truck. Luke also talked to some of the neighbors, and asked them if they could keep an eye on the farm, and the cattle, that he would see about paying them, but they said they would do it for free. That Jonathan would do the same for them, and they were more then happy to help.
So after they picked up Bo* they headed for the highway back to Hazzard, on the way passing a sign, “Your Now Leaving Smallville, Please Come Again.”
