Chapter 21 - Gone
posted @ 19:15 in [ Chapter 21 ]

Martha’s funeral was held a few days after she died. All of Smallville had come to a complete stand still that day. Everyone had known Martha, everyone had cared about Martha, and everyone came to say goodbye.

Lex Luthor had bought the stone, Jonathan was to devastated and heart broken to protest Lex’ gift, and Martha had always seen something good in Lex even if Jonathan never could. Lex in a way looked at Martha as the mother he wished he had.

After the burial many of the people who went to the cemetery, went to the farm where there would be some food provided by neighbors, and to talk about Martha, and remember her. Jonathan didn’t want anyone there, he just wanted to be left alone, but the community wouldn’t let him.

“I remember Martha always loved these flowers,” Nel said as she placed a vase with Martha’s favorite flowers on the coffee table, “I always saved the best of the bunch for her.”

“She made the best pies as well,” another older lady said, “she could raise money with her baking for charities when we held them better then anyone else.”

“I remember…” a man began but Jonathan stood up and looked at everyone.

“Well now she’s gone!” he shouted, “so YOU,” he looked at Nel then picked up the vase she had set down, “don’t need to worry about saving any flowers,” and threw the vase at the wall where it shattered to pieces, “and YOU,” he looked at the lady that spoke about the pies, “will just have to bake your own damn pies! And YOU,” he looked at the man, then everyone else in the room who had now gone silent and just watched Jonathan go on a rampage, Luke, Clark, the boys except Bo* who was still in the hospital watching as well, “get out of my house.”

No one moved for fear of what Jonathan might do next, but then he shouted again, “GET OUT!” Everyone then quickly rushed out of there, with Luke offering his apologies, but everyone telling him it was ok, that Jonathan had the right to break down after loosing his wife, and to tell Jonathan and Clark if they needed anything to let them know.

Clark walked out of the house and went to his loft. A few minutes later Lana, and Chloe came into the loft. Both girls had visibly been crying.

“Clark… we’re so sorry, your mom was so beautiful, so wonderful,” Lana said.

“She always knew what to do, and what to say, she was like a mom to all of us,” Chloe added.

“Well now you’ll have to make due with your own mothers,” Clark snapped at them… then instantly regretted it. Lana’s mother was dead, and Chloe’s had been insane and gave her up for adoption, “I’m s…sorry,” Clark broke down into tears.

“It’s ok,” Lana told him walking up to him and grabbing him into a hug, “we’re all here for you.”

Chloe hugged him after, “we’re just a phone call away Clark, remember that, we’ll always be here for you.”

The girls left Clark alone and left the house, they wanted to say goodbye to Jonathan but they could hear things being thrown, and tossed, and broke coming from inside the house, and Jonathan shouting. Clark could hear everything his dad was saying as clear as if he was in the room with him instead of in the loft listening in.

“How could she die! How could she die and leave me alone! How could she do this to Clark, she should have fought harder, she should have been stronger!” Jonathan fell to the ground after everything he possibly could throw and break had already been thrown and broke.”

Luke walked over to Jonathan and helped him up from the ground, and helped walk him up the stairs to take him to his room, but Jonathan couldn’t bear to go in there, so Luke took him over to Clark’s room instead.

Clark walked over to a small toolbox he kept hidden in the loft, and opened it up. He took out a small box and was about to open it when Jesse walked up the steps to the loft.

“Clark,” Jesse said.

Clark quickly put the box in his pocket and turned to look at Jesse, “what.”

“I’m sorry about your mom,” Jesse told him.

“Yeah well so am I,” Clark responded.

“Luke, John, and me want you to know if you need anything… just let us know,” Jesse told him.

“If I need anything? If I need anything?” Clark got angry, “I need my mother alive! That’s what I need!” Clark ran past Jesse in super speed to the living room in the house.

When he stopped and looked around the living room he couldn’t believe what he saw. A lot of the things his mother cared about, tossed around the room, something’s broken, things scattered like it was trash. Clark suddenly felt full of anger and ran up super speed to his room where his dad was with Luke.

“How could you!” Clark shouted.

“Clark what’s the matter, what are you talking about?” Luke asked him as Jonathan just stared at Clark.

“How could you throw her stuff around? Those are her things, and you had no right!” Clark shouted at him.

“I’m sorry Clark, I didn’t…” Jonathan tried to respond.
“Do what you want, I can’t be here, I can’t watch you trash her stuff. Your not the only one she left!” Clark took out the box from his pocket.

“NO!” Jonathan jumped from the bed faster then Luke’s ever seen him move trying to reach Clark before Clark did what he was going to do.

“What’s wrong,” Luke didn’t know what was going on, had he, he would have grabbed the box from Clark since he was right next to him before Clark put the Red Kryptonite ring on.

“NO! PLEASE!” Jonathan said as he reached Clark, but it was to late.

Clark grabbed his dad by his shirt and picked him up off the floor, Luke grabbing Clark’s hand trying to get Clark to let go. Clark just threw Luke against the wall like he was a rag doll. Still holding his dad he looked into his eyes and told him, “I’m out of here, do what you want with her stuff, I don’t care.”

Clark then threw his dad into the wall farthest from the door. Jonathan landed onto the bed after hitting the wall.

Clark took off, and before Luke or Jonathan could regain their composer Clark was miles away.

“What happened? Why did he do that?” Luke pulled himself up, the boys running into the room by then.

“He’s gone… I’ve lost Martha, and I’ve lost my son,” Jonathan said stumbling forward, Luke catching him.

”He’ll come back, he’ll come back when he’s sorted things out,” Jesse said.

“You don’t understand, that ring… has a red piece of kryptonite, like the green ones, but the red one… turns him into another person… turns him into something… someone you never want to know…” Jonathan said before blacking out. He hadn’t eaten anything in days, and hadn’t slept, and Clark taking off was the last thing to push Jonathan to the edge. He collapsed and Luke grabbed him.
