Chapter 12 - Understanding
posted @ 19:11 in [ Chapter 12 ]

When Luke and Clark reached the farm they noticed the front door open. They both hurried out of the General and ran inside up to Clark’s room.

He was gone.

“How! You said the ropes…” Luke began.

“Krypto!” Clark shouted, holding up the rope where Krypto had chewed through. Krypto came out from under the bed, “you let him go!” Clark told the dog as if he was a real person. Krypto just sat down and made a crying sound covering his face with one paw, “don’t even try it, go!” Clark ordered him. Krypto ran out of the room.

“You talk to animals?” Luke asked.

“No,” Clark said.

“Then…” Luke was confused.

“What? Like no one else talks to their pets?” Clark said walking out of the room.

Luke didn’t respond, and just followed Clark back outside, “where do you think he might have gone?”

“His stuff was still in the General, so he couldn’t have left town,” Clark said.

“He wouldn’t, not without the General, he loves that car as much as your dad and me did… still do,” Luke said.

“You talk about a car like it was a person… and you think I’m a freak,” Clark said starting to use his X-Ray vision to search for Bo.

“I didn’t say you were a freak,” Luke said.

“No you just ran away like I was the plague or something,” Clark said.

“It wasn’t about you, not all of it…” Luke said.

“Just let it go, you were happy to be around my dad, I saw that, and he was happy,” Clark said, “why complicate things when you don’t need too,” Clark told him.

“It’s not that simple…” Luke said, and then noticed footprints leading away from the house towards the road.

“Come on, he cant be far,” Clark said going to get into his car… but then thought about it, and decided the truck might be better.

“Why aren’t you taking your car?” Luke asked.

“Don’t need anything else to tick off Bo,” Clark said.

When they pulled up out of the farm on to the road they say the direction Bo’s footprints went in, so that’s the direction they went towards.

“I know where he is,” Luke said.

“The Cave,” Clark said.

“Yeah… how did…” Luke asked.

“That’s where I would go, I’d go to where I failed, wasn’t able to help someone, or made a big mistake,” Clark said, “so it’s the Cave or the crash site, crash site isn’t this way, so that leaves the Cave.”

They pulled off to the side of the road after reaching the woods, where the Cave was near.

“I’ll go get him,” Luke said, “if he is there.”

“No… I’ll go,” Clark said.

“I don’t think…” Luke began.

“My dad asked me to try, and that’s what I’m gonna do, try,” Clark said getting out of the drivers side. He looked at Luke, and Luke was starring when all of a sudden Clark disappeared… or at least that’s how it looked like to Luke. Clark had used his super speed to get near the Cave quicker, and stopped when he saw Bo standing in front of what use to be the Cave he and Jonathan had been trapped in, and the Cave that had collapsed on Clark, and Bo*. He kept quiet and didn’t let Bo* hear that he was there yet.

“I don’t get it… how we got out of there,” Bo* said out loud looking up, “did you want this for me? Did you want me to come out here and see him?” he kept talking, “I don’t remember much anymore, and I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” Bo* went on, “I do remember you crying once, crying with Uncle Luke next to you, crying over him, you missed him, you loved him, and you still refused to call him, to tell him about me. Luke tried to get you to call him, but you wouldn’t… why did you tell me my father was a good man, and that you loved him, if you didn’t want to call him? I don’t understand. Now I’m here… and I can’t talk to him, I can’t let myself try to like him, because of what he made you go through. I wanted to see him when I was younger, but I was scared. I didn’t know why you always refused… did you think he wouldn’t want me? Because that’s what I thought, that’s what kept me from mailing that letter, that’s why I don’t know what to do now!” he shouted. “Should I hate him? I stopped taking my medicine mom… I couldn’t come here… I couldn’t do it, but I had to… Uncle Luke expected us to go… and I knew the day was coming… I stopped taking it weeks before we came… I didn’t want to be able to think, I needed to escape. I hurt my cousins, my family, WHY WOULDN’T YOU CALL HIM IF HE WAS SUCH A GOOD PERSON!” he got angry, “what do I do… tell me, Uncle Luke’s gonna be on me to take my meds, I cant run from this anymore.”

Clark didn’t know what to do, instead he went back to the truck, and told Luke to go get him. That it would probably be better if he went and got him, not telling Luke what he had heard. So Luke got out of the truck and headed towards the cave.

Clark sat in the truck, thinking about what he had heard. He wanted to hate Bo*; he had been hating him. He wanted Bo* to go, and never come back, but because his mom was in the hospital, and what Bo* said… Clark knew if anyone ever hurt his mother like that… he wouldn’t be able to like the person either.

Luke found Bo* sitting on the ground leaning up against a tree.

“Bo*,” Luke walked up to him. Bo didn’t respond, he just sat there unresponsive. “Bo*,” Luke said again kneeling down next to Bo*, placing his hand on Bo’s* shoulder, “Bo*.”

Bo* then looked up and looked at Luke, “I don’t know what to do anymore.”

“You will, you will,” Luke told him hugging him.

“I’ve ruined everything, everyone,” Bo* sobbed.

“You’ve made some mistakes Bo*, that’s all,” Luke told him.

“Luke won’t look at me the same, neither will Jesse… I hurt them… Jesse on purpose,” Bo* said.

“They’ll understand… they’re coming, should be here in a day or two,” Luke told him, “come on, lets get back to the farm.”

Bo* got up and followed Luke to the truck; he saw Clark, and his face-hardened. He didn’t want Clark around him at that moment.
